About Tea & Vows
Tea & Vows exists because of a specific, ordinary problem: a tea ceremony where half the room cannot follow what is being said.
It happens at almost every wedding where two families do not share a language. The ceremony goes ahead, everyone is polite, and one side of the room spends twenty minutes watching something they do not understand and cannot ask about.
The fix is not complicated. It is a handful of documents, written in both languages, sent before the day. The reason couples do not have them is that writing them twice, well, in two languages, under wedding-planning time pressure, is genuinely hard work.
The rule behind every line
Your family decides. Not this website. Nothing here is a ruling on how a Chinese wedding should be done. Practice varies by region, by dialect group, and from one household to the next, and the version your grandmother expects is the correct one for your wedding.
That is why every document is editable down to the sentence, why each language edits independently, and why the guides keep telling you to go and ask your parents rather than trusting a page you found in a search result.
Plenty of wedding sites will confidently tell you the correct order to serve tea in. Be careful with those. There is no single correct order, and a site that claims otherwise has not spoken to enough families.
What this is not
- Not a cultural authority. The guides describe what commonly happens, with the variation stated plainly.
- Not a planning service. Nobody here will coordinate your day or talk to your venue.
- Not a printer. You export files and decide what to do with them.
- Not a translation service. The Chinese is written, not machine-translated, but it is a starting draft for a person who reads Chinese to check.
Scope, honestly
English and simplified Chinese. Traditional characters and other languages are not supported today. The documents are written for a wedding tea ceremony specifically — not for the whole wedding, and not for tea ceremonies in other traditions.
